The Blood Plum (Mận máu) is a rare, heirloom variety native to Hoàng Su Phì district in Hà Giang province. It is renowned for its distinctive aroma and tannic profile, richer than the common Tam Hoa or Hậu plums of Sơn La. Locals named it “blood plum” for its deep crimson flesh, firm sweetness, gentle acidity, and purple-red skin. In 2021, Hoàng Su Phì Blood Plum was awarded the 4-star OCOP standard.
Harvested during its very short season, these clean, ripe plums are steeped in distilled spirit following a special recipe—bringing together tannic sharpness, bright acidity, and smooth sweetness.
Blood Plum Liqueur carries tannins reminiscent of red wine, making it a perfect pairing with red meats, grilled dishes, and hotpots. For best enjoyment, chill lightly in the refrigerator for 10 minutes before serving (but avoid deep chilling). Sip slowly and let the full-bodied tartness, delicate sweetness, and rounded tannins unfold across the palate.
